I guess we'll all be treated soon to the latest works of Woody Allen but in a setting that some in España may be more familiar with. Anyone interested in watching the film? Anyone see the trailer (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809912195/trailer)?

No havent seen it but Steve W and I had a telling off in a Bar on Rambla de Raval because a local character (nutter) accused us of being part of the film crew and having prevented the bar next door from opening its teraza whilst we filmed... six degrees of separation or what!:)

Watched the trailer - didnt see much of BCN ... his pickup line was in the same league as "Youre lucky, I've lowered my standards early tonight, get your coat" Still , knock on enough doors....

They made a "Film Noir" there once. Made it during the night.

Do I really want to see "Woody the Eternal Self-Obsessed Whining Whinger" in Spain? No thanks! It would be as sickening as adding home-brewed anís to a Gran Reserva!:thumbs-down::thumbs-down::thumbs-down:

He's not, he's directing the film, though maybe there will be a cameo role for him.

Yes, I'm looking forward to it... being a fan of both Woody Allen and Spain seems like nothing could go wrong.

Looking forward to it too but mostly because of Barcelona and "our Pe" in it. :)

A person I know whose taste in movies I trust very much got to see the premiere of VCB at the Cannes Festival (last may) and said that it was the best Allen comedy in years.
In my opinion Allen's last two efforts ('Scoop' and 'Cassandra's Dream') have been quite dissapointing, but I believe he's still capable of delivering great stuff. His last great film, IMO, was his drama 'Match Point' which I consider a masterwork and it was released in 2005.
I've heard that Barcelona looks great under his eye. I'll have to check out.

I saw it. It was a decent movie, and Penelope Cruz is stunningly good at playing a woman obsessed. :) I'm glad I saw it, though I probably wouldn't go see it a second time.
The only thing that really bugged me was that Woody Allen narrated that Christina got along swimmingly with all of the male lead character's (I forget his name) friends -- however, she is IN Barcelona and doesn't speak a WORD of Spanish (or Catalan). You see her conversing with Spaniards in the background as Woody is narrating and... well, this would not happen in reality!

If the trailer is any indication, this is going to be a disappointing film. Disappointing as in a waste of Javier and Penelope's talents. I hope what happened to Antonio Banderas doesn't happen to Javier Bardem. Since coming to Hollywood, Antonio has not gotten many good roles, although I think he's been a success in the box office.

Don't expect much. Bardem and Cruz acquit themselves well given the limitations of the script, and it is interesting seeing them act in english, but that is all one can say in its favor. Bardem's character is a walking cliche latin lover and Barcelona is essentially just a series of postcard vignettes
The original is mostly in english, although Bardem and Cruz have a few interchanges in Spanish. Not a word of Catalan is uttered. Will it be dubbed for distribution in Spain?
