¿Cuál es la diferencia entre recordar y acordarse? ¿Son sinónimos? Es la misma cosa decir: ¿Te acuerdas? o ¿Recuerdas?

Creo que son sinónimos pero necesitas utilizar 'de' despues de acordarse.

I think I read somewhere else that recordar is closer to the English recall and so, for example, you'd use acordarse rather than recordar in contexts like 'I'll do it if I remember'.

The OSD, however, lists acordarse as a synonym of recordar when used intransitively. So perhaps the above was just a personal preference.

I think they are both often interchangeable. A local teacher here taught their use as in this example:
recordar/remind:
me recuerdas a mi hermano. you remind me of my brother.

acordarse/remember:
de tu hermano ni me acuerdo. I can't even remember your brother.
