It is horribly hot in Madrid, so we escaped to supposedly cooler El Escorial. We had just visited a small art gallery and were outside beside a small fountain in which my friend had just dipped her hands up to the wrists to cool. Suddenly this dog jumped up on the low side of the fountain. At first he inserted a tentative paw into the water as if trying to determine the depth. Then he put in both paws and splashed doggy paddle and finally deciding that this just wasn't good enough launched himself into the fountain with a bow(wow) wave that fell on all in the vacinity. How we envied him.

What a great idea!

We went to El Escorial too on Sunday, lovely up there! On Monday we went further afield to some amazing swimming pools in the pine forested slopes above Cercedilla. Absoulute heaven. You'll need a car, but if you can get there, here's the info:

Don't go at the weekend though, it's apparently insufferable!

Love the pics! ;D

It´s hot as hell here in Barcelona too, although being on the coast keeps us a few degrees behind Madrid thankfully...

... and of course, it means we have the beach to help us cool off with a welcome doggy paddle of our own! ;D

What memories those pix evoke Sir Richard:
It's a Lab (with a Golden Retreiver tail). There's no keeping them out of the water - no way; when I still lived in London my golden retreiver would seemingly fly thru the air and hurl himself into the Round Pond in Kensington Gardens every day - a totally rat infested viral hell hole, in reality, tho it looked so...hmm... "pastoral"....that fountain in your pix is a whole lot smaller and (hopefully), cleaner - whatever was breeding in the Round Pond caused awful painful eczema:mad:....and massive vet bills:D...but:tenía mono del agua

As we live by the sea, our Border Collie swims twice a day- keeps him cool in the hot weather!.:thumbs-up:

True, if it's wet and shiny, they'll go for it! But despite their habits, I love labradors. :thumbs-up:

The animals at Madrid Zoo have special treats to combat the heat:
