View Full Version : Spanish Landmarks Quiz

Inspired by the BBC's landmarks quiz (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/5255908.stm), would you know where you were in Spain without the presence of a major landmark?

Test your powers of recognition with this one, a smiley for the winner.

And another:

It looks a bit like a Russian Orthodox church but I'm sure that's not what it is...

Well could that golden globe be a clue? Looks like the Banco de España just across from Plaza de Cibeles.

Edith, it's not what it is, but where. Clue:Ben walked past it on one of his walks.

Guapo: Move along a bit.

Can I say where the third one is???

I lived the first 25 years of my life in the same street a bit lower down towards the station!!!

Por supuesto the podmother can answer. I thought you would get the third one, for sure, but what about the others. I have more. I deliberately walked around Madrid taking pics of skyline landmarks for such a quiz as this. I've posted others on Flickr.

I think it is a building of flats next to the Retiro Park entrance nearest to Atocha Station... but now I'm not as sure as when I saw it the first time:confused:.

richardksa

Correct. I am standing at the gate of the fallen Angel, El Pueto del Angel Caido. How about the first one!!!! You must have been there.

Is it in the park near the lake???

Marina

Sorry!
Posts 12 & 13 are about the pic in post 6.
Post 14 is about the pic in post 4.

The white tower in #4 is nowhere near a lake. It overlooks a very popular plaza in the centre of the city.

Marina

Is it a Hotel in plaza de Santa Ana?

richardksa
16th August 2006, 03:49 PM
Correct. I'll have to upload some more!!

richardksa
16th August 2006, 06:50 PM

Now where am I?? Well,

richardksa
17th August 2006, 04:57 AM
Sorry about that. I was being plagued with a sat uplink that reduced internet speed from that of light to that of an old camel with arthritus. I thought I'd uploaded the picture, but then my link shut down completely. Didn't find out to now that I uploaded nothing. Will do it correctly soon.

must be time for another photo quiz? Can you spot the four different locations in the following pictures? All taken on a recent trip to Spain (more grey skies than blue unfortunately ). There is a clue elsewhere in the forum as to the region of Spain I was visiting.

Bilbao and San Sebastian. The third possibly Guernica, not at all sure on the 4th (maybe Pamplona but that's Navarra).

Top marks Marbella!!! :thumbs-up:

Ok, so I did stray slightly into Navarra but I knew somebody would figure it out. I guess Bilbao and San Sebastian were pretty easy though.

Fantastic. The Aste Nagusia (http://www.bilbao.net/astenagusia/) celebrations were on all week in Bilbao so there was one long party. ;D

Okay where is Mama sitting?

That's my wife Merrilynn, by the way. She looks a little Andalucian, doesn't she?

I may have broken the rules on this one because their is a major landmark in the background, although I don't think it jumps right out at you as to what it is. That's not the answer I want though. Where is Merrilynn sitting? The Queen's subjects should get this.

¿Es La Giralda en el fondo, ¿no? Así que puede ser el bar irlandés, ¿Murphy´s?
Sí, tu mujer tiene pinta de andaluza.

Agree with Frank that that's probably the Giralda in the background in which case the bar is possibly Flaherty's ?

I'm sure you're right about the name of the bar, mine was a guess! :) It's quite a few years ago that we were last there.

ding! ding! ding! We have a winner!

Rod nailed it although that was an impressive guess by Omeyas!

Be careful - I don't think the Irish consider themselves subjects of the Queen.
