This has localy been a big story, the latest if not the final chapter can be read here:

No doubt, the local population and the police are relieved they have finaly been detained.
Given that the deceased member of the criminal band is reported by sources has having been on weekend leave from a prison sentence in Huevla it is a factor, which if confirmed, may well elevate the story to a national level.

It was on the 20minutos.es site last night, so it is already national... anything that involves police and shooting gets elevated right away I think. And I thought Cadiz was such a nice, quiet corner of the world...

Ben,

Cadiz, much as I love the place, has the usual problems that any
city has. If you take a walk around the old town, you'll notice plenty
of discarded empty handbags. It's one of the bag snatching capitals
of Spain.

It's just occurred to me that your tongue may have been firmly and ironically in your cheek. In which case I feel a bit of a fool

I had no idea that Cádiz city was one of the bag snatching capitals of Spain, is your opinion based on personal experience or on noted crime figures?

I actually always feel quite safe from street crime in Cádiz city, whatever the time of day or night, but I may be relating that perception to my personal experiences of life in a British city, where the threat, perceived or otherwise, seemed greater.

I found this green wallet just yesterday in Benalmadena. It appeared to have be stolen from a Swedish woman. I handed it over the the first policeman I could find.

I thought Barcelona was the most notorious place in Spain for bag dipping.
My wallet went missing on the metro

I always thought that the old part of Cadíz was particularly safe because it is very hard for any potential bag snatchers to make an escape - it's surrounded by sea.

Madrid seems to have got worse for pick pockets recently, based on people I know who have had things stolen. However I did manage to lose my wallet the other week and somebody kindly handed it to the police. Even all the cash was still there.
