Fancy Restaurant in Madrid

I'd appreciate any recommendations for a really really nice restaurant in Madrid. Some place with a beautiful atmosphere and great Spanish food, net a special occasion restaurant. Price no object.

I can recommend several restaurants like that, but maybe the best I can come up with now is "El molino de los porches":

Be careful because there are four "El molino", but I'm talking about "El molino de los porches". This is the addres: Paseo Pintor Rosales, 1 (Junto al Parque del Oeste). This is the phone number to make a reservation: 91 548 13 36 - 91 559 93 58.

I love this restaurant for special occasions because it is inside "parque del oeste", a beautiful atmosphere. I think it was built in Franco's time and they allowed them to build it there. Now it's forbidden to build in the park, of course. If you call to make the reservation, I recommend you ask for a table in the main room because it's beautiful. The food is great, of course.

I can second "El Molino de Los Porches" - it's where I celebrated my wedding earlier this year!

Also worth trying is "La Casa Ciliaco" in Calle Mayor

I thought the restaruant in the Teatro Real was quite nice, but I haven't been for about 8 years so best not bank on that! I haven't been to many 'price is not object' places in Madrid I'm afraid!

It is not fancy in a poshy way. It is not either the newest hype in town, it has just been maybe the best restaurant in Madrid (or one of the very best) for a long time now foodwise.

The Chef and owner, Abraham García, is one of the most acknowledged cooks in Spain.

The have a wine cellar with 25.000 bottles approx., that cover the all wine regions of the world. The wine list is 30 pages long.

Price, indeed, is not an object in this place.

Viridiana sounds like the type of place I'm looking for Unfortunately, I didn't make it there this trip. Fortunately, I'm back in Madrid in October, and will report back on how it goes.

I have two favorites.

Casa Mingo - next to La hermita de San Antonio de la Florida- not really fancy, but great atmosphere and food- especially the pollo asado and the sidra- comida asturiana

La Finca de Susana- great atmosphere, not terribly expensive- mediterranean mix of foods- my favorite is pato con ciruelas- It is not a far walk from Sol (I can give more precise directions if anyone is interested)- it opens at 7:30 for dinner and people start lining up about 6:45 or 7

I heard only good things about this place from my spanish collegues. Well, by "good things" I mean a raving on about it for about 30 minutes, telling me that I can't leave Madrid without going there! (I never did get round to it :D).

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I need to go back to Madrid soon to check out all these places.

I went to Viridiana last week, and had a fabulous meal. If anyone is going there soon, I'd highly recommend the chestnut cream w/jamon as a starter. Yummm!
