I'm sure it's Ok for 21s Centruy man to shed the occasional tear in heart-rending classic films... isn't it?

In any case I was left an emotional wreck yesterday after watching Gregory Peck's 'To Kill a Mocking Bird' - what a classic film, I cannot recommend it enough!

Another that gets me every time is 'La Vita e Bella' - Life is beautiful.

Haven't seen either? Watch them asap!

Are there any films you would add to a list of un-missable, emotive, all time greats?

Haven't seen To Kill a Mocking Bird but I've had the book for ages and never read it. I'll look out for the film now and try to watch it. Life is Beautiful is one that grabs so many people.

The Shawshank Redemption with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman is a classic tear-jerker for men.

...and don't laugh, but Spanglish with Paz Vega is far more thought provoking than many would think. The final scene with her daughter is quite distressing really.

I remember calling round at my mum's house a few years ago just as she popped "When a Man Loves a Woman" in the video. I thought, "well, I'm here now, so I may as well have a cuppa and watch it". Oh my God, I was in floods. Didn't know a thing about it before I started watching, but loved it.:'(

On a Spanish theme, I watched "Solas" a few weeks back, and blubbed during that too. Very powerful, very well acted, and very poignant. I've forgotten the old lady's name that plays the mother, but she was marvellous. I believe (although I'm not sure) that she now stars in a Spanish TV drama about the Franco years (I caught a glimpse of her in that BBC2 show about Madrid that one of you guys posted about the other week).

ET makes me cry like a girl too.

The very end of Saving Private Ryan where Ryan is an old man at the cemetery and he's asking his wife in tears if he's done well enough with his life.

We settled down for an evenings viewing and my beloved decided to watch Love Story - Ali McGraw I think. I made an excuse and popped out. I returned with a box of tissues - just as well...

Beaches with Bet Middler had the same effect on her....

After reading a couple of books about Tibet and the Dalai Lama (Isabel's Losada (http://www.isabellosada.com/) "For Tibet with love" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0747581185/026-2651688-4290014?v=glance&n=266239&s=books&v=glance) and Dalai Lama's (http://www.tibet.com/DL/index.html) "Freedom in exile" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0349111111/026-2651688-4290014?v=glance&n=266239&s=books&v=glance)) watching Seven years in Tibet made me cry like a baby.

A few months ago, at a screening of "Mrs. Henderson Presents..." with Judi Dench I had tears running down my face. I was so embarassed, whe the light came up I didn't want to move, but as I stood to let the lady next to me pass, she was in the same state - and we were not the only ones. Not bad for a Wednesday morning "Senior Screen" presentation. PS, "Senior Screen" is open to anyone. I am not that old!!!
