We travelled with our ten month old a few months ago to Spain (Madrid and Galicia, specifically), and here are a few tips that might help you with your planning:

- children and babies are welcome just about everywhere, including the nicer restaurants. Spain is a very family-oriented society.

- they don't have plain Cheerios in Spain! We searched everywhere but could only find the HoneyNut ones. We wished we had brought more with us.

- there is quite a bit of variety in the bottled baby food. However, the selection of fruits and veggies wasn't as wide as at home (no prunes!), and some of the food with meat had more salt compared to domestic brands.

- they have the same diapers and wipes as they do here (Canada and US), Huggies and Pampers. Pampers is the "Dodot" brand in Spain.

I hope that helps!

Thanks Alison! The only thing I can imagine will really annoy me now when travelling with our baby in Spain is the smoking in restaurants. I've grown to really dislike it recently, but with my boy in tow... grrrrrr :(

In spain its prohibited to smoke in restaurants (it can be allowed in the ones that have less than 100 square metres) if it has more smokers must be in a separated area

There's one more thing that might be helpful.

The Corte Ingles by Puerta del Sol, in the centre of Madrid, is one of the few stores that is open on Sundays (or so I have been told). That location has a supermarket, and we found that very useful when we needed baby supplies after arriving. I think we wore tracks between our hotel and the store! We stayed in a great hotel right near Callao. Good value (we booked for five nights) though not cheap, lovely crib on request, clean and friendly staff, and a fantastic location: near the metro, good shopping, Puerta del Sol, right in the centre of the action.

Hombre, por favor. La ley dice eso pero en la práctica, es un poco diferente. :p
