just noticed that Google has updated the 3D model of the Prado museum in Google Earth and added 16 high resolution images (14,000 mega pixels) of some of the masterpieces (some more details here (http://www.google.com/intl/en/landing/prado/)).

Zooming in on some of the pictures is pretty amazing. Not quite as good as seeing the real things but if you can't get to Madrid or want to avoid the queues it is not bad.

Interesting stuff, although as a jounalist put it - nothing beats seeing the pictures in real life, followed by a cup of marvellous coffee in Madrid. My favourite painting in the Prado is The Triumph of Death by Bruegel, although many will find it too morbid.

my favorite things from the Prado were the treasures in the basement. Such amazing artifacts from antiquity all in one place!
