Hi Marina,
I will be in Madrid on Sunday evening (3 September).
Is there anything interesting going on that you might know about? eg.live music etc.(The tourist information centre may be closed when I get there).
Are Sundays quiet or is there no such thing as a quiet night in Madrid?
I am already preparing myself for the heat!!!

Hi, I'll jump in and answer until Marina sees this... Sunday is quieter, but you can always find something going on. Try La Latina and the bars around Plaza de la Cebada for tapas and beer, or Plaza de Santa Ana. I have no idea about events like live music, but you could have a look at esmadrid.com (http://www.esmadrid.com), which is run by the tourist office. Have a wonderful time and be prepared, it is really hot!

Sundays might be a bit quieter, but you'll still find lots of people out and most of the bar/restaurants will beopen. As it's so hot, I would give it a go to have a few drinks and some tapas while sitting down in a nice "terraza".
Try La Latina area as Ben suggested, or near the Plaza Mayor (not in it as the terraces tend to be very pricy and food is not specially good )

If you want to listen to some flamenco you can finish the night by having a drink in a Flamenco bar. (For shows timetables you can check any Madrid guide)

Enjoy your trip!!!

Do you think there will be a noticable difference to a night out on Sunday if Spain win the basketball worldcup? Would people take to the streets in the evening? I remember when I was in Salamanca and the female basketball team beat barcelonas team. It was hectic. I know the match is at midday though.

Thanks guys.
I will keep an eye out for you when I am out and about.I just need to look for an English man and a Spanish woman wandering around markets with recording equipment!!!

Yeah.... I bet it will be a little rowdy tonight.

Hello gang !!!

Finally, I'm less than a month away (29 sept.) from my third backpacking trip through Europe, and the icing on the cake will be 5 days in Madrid (12-15 oct.) to visit friends.
Ben/Marina, do you know a good place to go out to dinner? I want to take a friend out and I want her to have a good time (around Plaza Sta. Ana maybe?). Also, do you know of a cool night club to go dancing and stuff? Preferably around Serrano. I've heard there are cool and hyp clubs near Santiago Bernabéu stadium, do you know any?

Maybe you could do a podcast about night life (nightclub scene) in Madrid. Vamonos de marcha tíos !!!!

Saludos

I would start with a glass of Cava at a great little bar we were recently shown on Cava Baja (at the top, the Plaza Mayor end) called La Concha (tiny place on the left as you head down the street, blue doorway), then head round the corner to Cava Alta where there is a classic restaurant called La Viuda de Vacas (at no. 23 I think) - go early or reserve. Then you are right next to La Latina for more drinks before you go clubbing... but as for the best clubs in Madrid... I'm afraid I am not too good on the club scene at the moment, must be getting old or something

The above may actually be better suited to a romantic night out... perhaps you are after something a little crazier...

Great!, thanks.

I'm kinda' looking for something in between. Not too crazy but not to fancy or serious. Just a good dinner with a dear friend at a comfy place to catch up on our adventures. But ideas are welcome.

:thumbs-up: ;D

Both the above places would be great for that!
