Looks like apple have release a new iPod shuffle.
Very small, and now only £55 for 1GB. Nice. Take a look:

This year I have bought in Spain a 40 gbyte external hard drive for 69 euros (UK £79) and a 1 gbyte flash card for 29 euros (UK £35). The difference paid for my airfare to Spain, although they were not why I came. I have got ino the habit now of just putting off any such purchase until I arrive in Spain. It's always cheaper.

I woukd recommend Creative ahead of any iPod.
BTW Everything is dearer in Ireland than in Spain. Jamesons whiskey is twice the price FFS!

i havent tried any other mp3 players, i know some people have had bad experiences of iPods, but others not.
I really like mine, and the video is great. someone told me they are releasing an iPod phone soon. not sure how true or when that is. will have to find out. that would be cool. a good phone, and excellent mp3 player in one. I know there are now more contenders to the ipod coming out though. But it seems ipod are heading down the right root. Its great they are shrinking this technology down, but im sure its going to make it easier for someone as clumbsy as myself to loose it!

Gary, It was PC world the I compared with. They must have dropped their prices in the intervening months.
Hernández, I agree. I'm a great fan of creative - and didn't I read recently that Apple have paid Creative an awful lot of money for infringement of patents. $100,000,000 I think.
While listen to my nomad a few months ago and young American told me that he used to have a Creative, but then due to addmitted peer pressure, he had changed to an Ipod and sold his creative cheap to a friend. He really wished he still had the Creative. The Ipod just didn't compare.

Just curious, why?

Hey, doesn't Verizon or somesuch already have a phone that you can purchase and download music?

I had a little 128 mb Creative muvo before my iPod, and it sure took a beating, but was an excellent little player.

Yeah Motorola razor does it.
If you suffer peer pressure just buy the white 'mug me' headphones - no one will know.
The new iPod Shuffle is made to clip on clothing - highlt desireable and stylish but easily snatchable - a nightmare on the school bus!!
I have an old Shuffle and its great. I press play and listen to Ben and Marina whilst I walk the dog. Sometimes I even put music on it. I have a froend that wondered how to select the tracks - you dont, but as its all your music anywat what the hell difference does it make - presumeably no one is stupid enough to put on songs they dont like? Its like the ideal radio station - all great tunes and no ads or idiot shouty DJ. In fact in my car it is a radio station with my (completely illegal in the UK) fm iTrip transmitter I tune in the radio and enjoy the journey. still to get caught there would have to be a police car within 10 metres tuned co-incidentally to the same blank fm slot that I was using.

I love my ipod - its a nano. I bought speakers and as well as using it as a personal player, we use it for our main music player and I use it for audio books - we can take it outside on our terrace, on holiday, anywhere there is an electricity supply- its great being so portable. Now I want to get a car adapter so it can be used with the car speakers, (not the naff cassette adaptation type) just waiting for the prices to come down a bit and being able to find it in Spain.

I understand you can't beat the iPod for its compactness and elegant user interface.

I bought an iPod in August 2005 - the 20gb one from Argos near where I live. I had to take it back in October because it broke so they replaced it, then it broke again in January so they replaced it again and now it looks like its on its way out again :(
Think I might just get my money back and buy another type of mp3 player...

I've had a nano like Jan since February, and I'm very pleased with it. It is somewhat limited in storage capacity, but you get compactness with a viewscreen. It's perfect for when I go running- something that I might be afraid to do with one of the larger iPods due to bulkiness.

Apple who? i-What?
Step aside! Here comes the (brown is the new white!) Microsoft Zune (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20060914-7747.html)

Wow, what kind of people did Microsoft find for their focus groups? I can't really believe that anyone would say 'oh yes, a brown mp3 player would be my top choice!'
Hmm, actually, as an Apple devotee, I probably would tell Microsoft that I would just love a brown mp3 player or maybe a nice avocado green one next...

I have had a 30gbyte Creative Nomad for about three years. It has lived up to its name and travelled with me for thousands of miles. Many of them across bumpy desert roads. It has had zero problems.
Now here's my boss speaking:"An Ipod is the only way to go. And when it's in the shop being repaired, they do a really fast turn around".
Repair? If you have a creative that's one problem you don't have.

When I took my iPod back to be repaired I had to wait a month!!! (for me it was torture... I love my music lol)
Are creative's really that good? I need something to play my music on and if my iPod goes then I'll be looking for something else because there's no point putting all my songs on it when I have to take it back every few months.

Wow, I didn't know so many people had problems with iPods. I've never had one break or need repairs. My 4 year old 1st generation iPod has to continually be plugged and unplugged from the charger to charge the battery all the way but I haven't had any problems at all with my 2 year old 40GB or my nano (admittedly, the nano is brand new and I got it as part of a promotion--buy a computer and get a free nano!).
The people I know who have Creatives love them but do tend to complain about not being able to use iTunes.

I bought one of the new Nanos (in electric blue) on Monday (in NYC for $199US). Very cute and much smaller than my old Mini (which had horrible battery life and died 3 times - after arguing extensively with Apple over the terms of their warranty).

I'm jealous! When I bought mine, all they had was white. Or black.

I was so torn between the colors. I actually took pink/magenta to the register, but then I thought about these cute little blue rubber covers I have for my earbuds (you can get them in Radio Shack in the States and they don't come off like those little black foam ones that come with the iPod) and changed my mind.
I listened to all 3 of the Intermediate podcasts in my car on my trip (am visiting my mom for the weekend).
The battery life so far is FAR superior to my old Mini
