I came across a new band for me, dhria on my best ever latin music podcast, ritmo latino. I really liked it and believe they played in Madrid recently. Anyone catch the performance or know of this group?

Never heard of them, what kind of music is it?

Spanish Rap - but interposed with more melodic stuff in english and some eastern influences - try siete planchas - check it out on http://www.dhira.com/english/index.htm. Anyway, I spelt it wrongly DHIRA !! Also try Ritmo latino at http://ritmolatino.org As it says

"Ritmo Latino is an hour of
eclectic Latin music that will
leave you shaking your
booty and speaking in
tongues."

Well, my Spanish is pretty lousy, but I would say it's far better than my Portuguese.

Anyway, I took French in high school and college. I didn't actually start taking Spanish until 2001 and even then it was sporadic. I traveled through Latin America for the year and the bulk of my lessons occurred in Mexico, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.

But, I'm glad you enjoy the show.

Now, go shake that booty -- the January 29 episode is going to be one of the most disco-funk-a-licious episodes in the past year. It features Los Amigos Invisibles, Rita Lee, Gecko Turner, Akwid, Macaco, and Seņor Coconut.

Cheers,

I would like to hear some of your music, but the audio file on your website took ages to download and then I couldn't play it. :o

The "play" button on the site worked in a Quicktime window in Firefox. I think it was an MP4 file so maybe your MP3 player won't handle that.
Definitely music to chill out to!

Edith,

You're right -- the file is large (57MB), but if you have DSL it shouldn't be a problem. I also strongly recommend using Firefox as your browser. As opposed to IE, it will start playing the show while it downloads the rest of the file. Otherwise, you're right, you may have to sit there for 10 minutes or longer -- but then it should play.

And when you click the link on the site, it should open up a new page with a QuickTime player.

But honestly, the best way to listen is to subscribe to the podcast. It's on several directories including iTunes and Yahoo!. That way it automatically downloads to your computer and you can listen whenever you want without waiting for it to download each time.

If you continue to have problems, please let me know. I have over 20,000 listeners and I haven't had very many people tell me they have trouble accessing it. If you continue to have problems I'll look into an alternative method for you (and others who may be having the same experience).

Suerte...

Greytop,

I'm glad you pointed that out. It is not an mp3 file. But that shouldn't be an issue unless someone is trying to download the file and then doesn't have iTunes to play it on. Clicking the play button on the website should only stream the audio.

Also, for anyone using an mp3 player that doesn't support m4a files, you can easily convert the file in iTunes to an mp3 format.

The advantage of m4a is that the program is divided into "chapters". Each song is represented by its album cover with a link to iTunes (or other site when applicable). It also allows you to skip around the program easily.

Thanks for listening...

Neil

Hola Neil,

Thanks for your advice. I think subscribing to the podcasts will be the simplest solution for me; I'm not computer-savvy enough to install a new browser anyway. :D
