I'm going to Seville soon and know nothing about tapas. Anyone got favourites I should try? Tell me the main ingredients as well please!:)

If you can find 'habitas con jamon', which is simply baby broad beans with little bits of cured ham and a hint of garlic, you may be in heaven!

In this thread (http://www.notesfromspain.com/forums/showthread.php?p=268#post268) you can find some Sevillian tapas restaurants in recommended by a Sevillian friend.

¡Don't miss salmorejo (http://www.notesfromspain.com/376/) which is a thick tomato soup!

Try them all and ask what they contain afterwards!

My wife goes for the less adventurous options
Meatballs in tomato sauce (albondigas)
Spanish potato omelette (tortilla)
Jamon serrano (or the more expensive & stronger tasting iberico)
Potatoes with spicy tomato sauce (patas bravas)
Russian potao salad (usually full of vegetables)

I try just about anything including the blood puddings, stewed kidneys (riñones), rabbit or chicken in garlic (á la Marina), cheeses and so on.

We found down in Southern Spain they often don't ask but give you their selection when you order a drink. Round where I live in mid Valencian region it is normal to order and pay for what you want. Too many b----y tourists!
Enjoy them all and have a good trip

And there's the wonderful simplicity of aceitúnas aliñadas - marinated olives.

You guys are making me hungry ;D

I've tried all of the "easy" ones listed above. My favorites all include jamon. I'm all jamon all the time ;D

There's one simple tapa that I love everytime I visit Seville, particularly if I am going to bar Pepe Hillo, it's "solomillo al whisky"....lots of garlic! "Pisto con huevo" is another favorite of mine, like a ratatouille with a fried egg on top...

Actually we have a podcast on Pisto (http://www.notesfromspain.com/223/) if anyone wants to hear it.

I always go on about them, but I love pimientos de padrón. And last night I had a potatoey, eggy, chorizoey thing. I don´t know what it was called, but it wasn´t quite a tortilla. The egg wasn´t cooked with the potato - they were just all mixed together with a good oil. Mmmmm.

Sounds very much like what we had in Málaga last week. It was served in a metal dish, swimming in oil. Very nice.
Interesting site here. http://www.atapear.com/

Just back from the weekly market walkabout and stopped at a bar round the corner from where I live. We had some tapas and I think I have a new favourite. Jabalí, or wild pig, stewed with 3 sorts of beans and potatoes.
Ohhh boy!!!!! Very tasty.
They also had some sepia cooked in a way that made them look as dark as liver so I may have to go back tomorrow.

Sepia is the first thing that I order when I'm in Gandia (near to where Greytop lives) I usually have it a la plancha but I wouldn't mind to have it with it's own ink next time.
Here is an example of Sepia troceada

One tapa characteristic of Sevilla is espinacas con garbanzos, unusual in involving a vegetable and therefore useful in warding off scurvy for those on a tapas-only diet. Ingredients: chickpeas, spinach (obviously), a small amount of white bread fried in olive oil and then ground to a paste, and then typically chili, cumin, garlic, and saffron.

Mmm... espinacas con garbanzos.

It's raining, a perfect weather to eat gambas con gabardina.
