Some of the best fun I've had with spanish is learning all the different names they have for common characters - I think a list should be started. Please ignore any spelling mistakes, or correct me if I'm wrong:

These are the ones I've heard:

Snow White - Blancanieves
Cinderella - Cenicienta
Batgirl - Batichica
Cat Woman - Catubela
Fred Flintstone - Pedro Picapiedras
Kermit the Frog - Rene la rana

I assume Batman is Batman because Hombre-Murcielago is just too long for Robin to say in time !!!!!!!

Espíderman. Bueno, lo escribimos "Spiderman", pero no suena como en inglés ni por accidente. Hulk queda igual, "El increíble Hulk" (pronunciado "julk") :o

Oh, y en España Batgirl y Catwoman tampoco cambian (aunque lo de Catúbela lo había leido por ahí).Y hasta donde yo sé es Pedro Picapiedra, y "Los Picapiedra", todo sin S.

This thread is just the type of conversation I have with colleagues in my Spanish class ( who i will be telling about this site tomorrow night!) ie not always the most useful Spanish but highly entertaining.

Jimmy mentioned that Kermit the Frog was "la rana René"... Yes, that's apparently true for Latin America, but in Spain he's known as (I love this one) "la rana Gustavo (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rana_Gustavo)".

I guess the beauty of hand puppets is that re-dubbing and lip-syncing isn't so hard (otherwise they might have chosen something closer -- at least with two syllables -- like "Carlos"?).

Speaking of which, you've got Plaza Sésamo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plaza_Sésamo) in Latin America versus Barrio Sésamo (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrio_Sésamo) in Spain.

¡Uy! -- acabo de darme cuenta...¿Aquí no debemos estar "En Español"?
