Forum server update about to happen...

Typically the day I send a link to the forum to thousands of you wonderful newsletter subscribers, is also the day I have to turn it off for an hour or two as we swap to new, faster, better hosts... please bear with me! Should all occur about 9pm Spain time...

OK, so the forum is back, on a lovely fast, brand new VPS server.

Hopefully that means the end of downtime and forum speed problems. Sorry for the downtime during the change-over. Enjoy the new zippy forum!

Ben

P.S. Can anyone in the States and other non-EU countries let me know if the forum is working fast from there as well now the server is EU based?

looks fine

Much better service than before. I wonder if at some point you'll have to reduce the size of the database? It must affect the time needed to do searches etc.
Upward and onward as the proctologist said ;)

Increasing size shouldn't have too much of an impact on perfomance if the tables are all properly indexed.

The good thing about vbulletin, the forum software, is that it is built to handle up to millions of posts and enormous databases - as long as the server is good enough, and this one should be good for a while yet, then there shouldn't be a problem with the db size. Trying not to think about the proctologist

I've seem to have lost the quote reply button. Perfomance-wise, the forum seems fine.

I don't have it on Safari, which is the new beta version but I swear I saw it on that version before. I see it fine on Firefox. Here's a screen shot:http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3633/...905501e1_b.jpg

On Version 4 Public Beta (5528.16) of Safari I can see the buttons - so probably not the browser

Probably my box then, never mind. Re-booting corrected it.
