Hi - this goes right to the point of my previous query about how famous is Luol Deng over Beckham. I'm sure lots of non Basketball fans don't know Bryant, and some may only know Shaq from his music, but he is a household name in the US and anywhere where there is the slightest interest in basketball.

But how many non soccer fans in the US would know Messi or Ribery or Rooney, for example?

Just goes to show how we continue to be 2 completely different cultures united by a common language !

So unknown in US, known in the whole rest of the world. I think the world wins. And when will they stop calling a local tournament a "World Series"?

Default Congrats, Spain!

I have just gotten home from watching the game Germany - Spain in a Biergarten in Germany.

The Spanish team really kicked ass. Just could not understand why the German team played so timidly today. Might have been angst which is a bad starter.

Anyway, the better team won and the young Germans continue partying , nevertheless.

There were some happy people in the Pego streets last night and not a few fireworks!
At least both teams tried to score goals, something of a rarity in some of the earlier rounds.

I watch a lot of SportsCenter here in the US. Pretty much any even minor sports fan knows Beckham, and has for some time. Rooney is significantly less known, but still a lot of people just know him as "that angry guy".

As for the language thing, so long as you guys spell jail as something that can be confused for "goal" after too many drinks, it's wrong.

Oh yeah, and I only vaguely remember Deng from his college ball, as I'm not very big on pro basketball and opt for college, but those names change so fast I wouldn't expect most Americans to know much aside from some of the coaches.

Actually it's rather noisy in Madrid these nights. I don't think they would pay any attention to a "Ssh". But it is fun. Last night the whole town was as quiet as a tomb, as if no one was there. Then the game ended and people just tumbled out of their homes on to the street. It was a fantastic evening. If they go that mad winning a semi I hate to predict the outcome if the win the final. And if they lose ...

Easy now boys... nothing's been achieved so far.

We are all very exited about sunday but the way I see it : the closer you are to your dream the more fears you have to lose it. A dissapointment at this stage would be devastating.

Let's go Spain... make us happy, make us proud.

What is Spanish for "sick as a parrot"? I mean what you actually say in Spain when you lose sickeningly in football. My Spanish is good enough to translate that English football cliché literally.

Whatever it is you might need to use it on Sunday night.
