Default is AVE from Madrid to Segovia a popular route?

I'm asking because based on what I read, there are many commuters between Madrid and Toledo and I wanted to be sure to get a round trip ticket (we're going there for my birthday in May) for our day trip to Toledo while we're in Madrid. so, I purchased those today.

I've been thinking that I would just buy our ida/vuelta tickets for our day trip to Segovia when we get to Madrid. but I thought I'd see if I need to purchase them ahead of time online. I've got all of our other train travel tickets purchased, just booked 2 others today so we're in good shape there!

thanks for any advice!!

I went to Segovia earlier this month and bought the tickets at Chamartin just minutes before the train departed. It was just under 20€ for return tickets on the AVE and then about 0.70€ for the bus (that is waiting for you at the station) to the town centre. We ate at La Panera and happy to recommend it - c/Herrería 11, menu del día 14€, and a real honey looks after your every need

Yes, the food was good at la Panera - did we actually ever get a photo...?
Recommend the taxi back though - €10.
Do bear in mind that it is high in the hills and may be considerably colder than Madrid - eh Gato?

I was distinctly underdressed for the occasion and spent the first half hour looking in clothes shops for something warmer! Don't be conned by the beggar by the cathedral in the wheelchair. If he can afford an electric wheelchair then he's obviously not doing so badly!

Well there is a high speed line between Barcelona and Valencia but for some reason it wasn't called AVE, even though it was high speed (I know we took it in 2009).

Time for you Madrid -> BCN..... -> Valencia excursion

Indeed. Just back from a very relaxing break in the Lakes.

Anyway, La Panera from the outside, inside and plateside.
