Default New Robin Hood

Is it just me that's starting to get a little bit more than p****d off with Hollywood's casting. First Robin Hood blockbuster Kevin Kostner- American, Second Robin Hood, Russel Crowe- Australian. Braveheart- racist Australian with the worst scottish accent ever.

Now for the baddies, and you can bet your bottom $ they're going to be English! Like the versitile Alan Rickman.

Just a few examples:http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A891155 even in cartoons; Stewie Griffin, the evil baby on Family Guy (English accent)

Sherriff of Nottingham for the new RH movie, well it's none other than the guy from Spooks series 1. An English man!

I think it was Eddie Izzard who pointed out that the Death Star in Star Wars was entirely populated by English actors (although Darth Vader was voiced over by an American)

nottingham was where the Sherrif lived but the reason that he couldnt get to grips with Robin Hood was that Robin was clearly a Yorkshire lad that lived and lurked round the Sheffieid area - Robin of Loxley - the Loxley valley is in Sheffield not Nottingham.
So he would have sounded like this...

"Naah den, Ah want dee to put die gold darn dere on t'floor near dem dere trees."

Sheffield accent pronounces th as d - they are known affectionately as Dee-Dahs

What, what, what, I think you'll find your mistaken.

Robin Hood was a Shropshire Lad!
http://www.mythstories.com/robinA.html

http://www.channel4.com/history/micr...s/robin06.html

Substitute the name 'Robin Hood' for Fulk and that of the 'Sheriff of Nottingham' for Sir Morys and you have it. Robin Hood was indeed a Shropshire Lad.

So going by the sound of the yockals on The Green Green Grass (worst bbc show ever) Robin Hood would of sounded like he's from Sommmmmerset.

That was only because the actor that played Darth Vader, Sebastian Shaw (West Country accent) and David Prowse (Norfolk accent) was a bit too country bumpkin for Starwars.

A similar thing happened with Terminator, Arnie wanted to do the voice over for the German audience, but because the Austrian accent sounds a bit farmerish to the Germans they canned his idea.

James Earl Jones did the voice of Vader.

Besides, everybody knows Robin was from the hood, in Brooklyn.

I'm from Donny originally so I'm not fussed either way, but having watched timeteam I think it's more plausible he came from Shropshire!

Watch for yourself and you decide: (need to watch all of it).

The ballads mention Robin of the Hood 4 centuries before the Sherwood one, and the ballads aren't about the original Robin. He's from Shropshire! Fulk Fitz Warine, 1197.

I was once told a story that David Prowse didn't know that he was going to be voiced over - nobody bothered telling him because it was so obvious that his English farmer's accent didn't really fit the character. Apparently he was fully expecting to hear his voice speak Darth Vader's lines when he first saw the film and was stunned to hear James Earl Jones' voice instead. I have this mental image of him after the film desperately trying to convince his sceptical mates that it really was him playing Darth Vader.

Default Michael Praed Lives!

Never did care for Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood, nor Errol Flynn’s for that matter. Loved Michael Praed’s portrayal though:

"There are so many things that I want to say to you, but time's caught me up and now I'll never say them except that I loved you from the moment I saw you and every moment since".

Brilliant.
