Default 1st trip trip to Spain

Hello All and to Ben and Marina,
I have enjoyed the podcasts and other areas of the site.
I'm headed to Madrd then Barcelona. 5 days in each.
I was looking at things to see and do in Madrid and I found Chincon listed.
I read that they have BUllfights and the garlic festival in October , However I couldn't find the dates of the festival this year.
I'll be in Madrid next week and would like to go .
If anyone knows of the dates I would appreciate if you could send them .

If there are any other things you think i should see then send thwm along as well . When I get to Barcelona I will have a car so i plan on visiting some towns outside the city .

Thanks for any tips

Phil

Hello Phil

I recommend you visit Toledo. It is very near Madrid, only 25 minutes from Madrid by AVE (hight speed train). Toledo is the acient capital of the Spanish Empire, but now is a charming and small city.

Regards. JEA

I couldn't find any details on fiestas in Chinchˇn in October, but even if there aren't any fiestas it's worth a visit if you fancy seeing a traditional Spanish village. The restaurants around the plaza are great for large Spanish lunches

If you can hire a car then you could combine it with a trip to Aranjuez, which has a Royal Palace and impressive gardens. However Toledo and/or Segovia might be better for a first trip to Madrid since they are easy to get to by train, and have many more tourist attractions.

The bullfighting festival will take place on Oct 12, and the garlic festival during the week that follows.

Do you know if it will go until the weekend? I just may have to head down to that if so.

I would like to thank everyone for their help and suggestions. You see the internet can be used for good !

We actually caught a bullfight here in Madrid at Las Ventas. Everyone here has been very helpful to me, mixing my New York English and the little Italian i know. I guess the all the times I helped the tourists navigate their way around Central Park is paying off.
We have 4 more days here before we head to Barcelona. I plan on seeing the museums , the Teleferico (if it's still open),and a few of the parks.
I actually have a restaurant recommendation to pass on "La casa del Abeula" on Victoria 12 near the Plaza Santa Ana and short walk from Sol metro station. Delicious garlic shrimp and a house wine that i thought was awesome .

Toledo will probably be the town i visit, since i won't be in the area for the Chinchon garlic festival .
Any other suggestions are again greatly appreciated

thanks
