I see Beckham's starting tonight. Major climbdown from Capello. Will he make a difference?

Didn't he just. He looked like the only one who seemed bothered. Some sloppy keeping by Casillas at the start and not a particularly high-quality game.

So, I was wrong again about the Betis result (0-0). A typical Sevillian derby, lots of energy and excitement, not a great deal of quality in the final third. Betis should have won 3-0, though. One of the worst-taken penalties I've ever seen by Robert, who just blasted it over the bar. And after a Betis goal cruelly disallowed for offside, Robert's clean through on goal again and hits it a height that makes it very easy for the goalkeeper to block. What's the Spanish for 'couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo'?

Some (Betis supporters) might say cruelly. Others may say that he was clearly in an offside position when the long-range effort was delivered and he became 'live' when it rebounded off the keeper. I agree that it was a crap penalty. Betis were the better team but Sevilla did have that scramble on the goal line. Not a lot of quality shown. The excuse for Sevilla, apparently, is that they trained so hard over the winter that they're now leg weary but will be fit at the end of the season when the others fade. Not much help if they drop too many points now.

Can't help with the cow's arse, I'm afraid, unless it's no pueden pegar el culo de vaca con un banjo - but I'm sure it's not right.

Madrid draw and Zaragoza win - it's looking promising (or famous last words?).

That's out of date. Barca and Sevilla both have 46 points, Valencia and Madrid both with 42. Recre 36, Espanyol and Racing 32, Depor 30.
