Anis del Mono is the brand most likely encountered in the US, most often at liquor/wine merchants which supply large well-stocked bars.

From decades ago, I recall it in two formulations, the standard and a "seco' version capable of causing young Navy ensigns (poorly paid, $221 + $47.88 monthly) to clutch a farol, lean over the gutter and call for "Raaalph!" and Eaaarl!"

Try Anís de Chinchón- one of the better ones!

Back in my penurious naval youth, I circled the Med on Anis, Arak, Raki, Ouzo, Sambuca (all sweet, and the "Black" even more so), Anis Stock, Pernod, Pastis Ricard, etc., Chinchon, and del Mono. For an apertif, Ok, but one should avoid substantial intake.
