The HD in my web server (wherever it is) had failed, permanently.
Then the phone started to ring
All the others that have sites with me were ringing their hosting provider - me.
In the end after initiating tests, having the HD replaced and re imaged I finished re-establishing all the sites at 3 oclock this morning

Thank God for backups...

Well, actually... 1 PC, 2 Macbook Pros, 1 iMac, 3 printers, Airport wireless router, and a terrabyte of external HD... but no server!!
