OK, so I've posted about it just about everywhere, but in case you missed it, we've put together a free Spanish wine phrases pdf for you over on the notesinspanish.com blog:

In the newsletter I sent out today I mentioned the common phrase 'Al pan pan, y al vino vino', which isn't acutally included in the report. Some people have requested a further example of its use.

Well, imagine a Spanish person feels funny about describing their crazy neighbour as just plain mad. He might say:

Mi vecino es un poco... raro... sabes... no es... como nosotros...
(My neighbour is a bit... strange... you know... he isn't... like us...)

To which you might reply:

Al pan pan y al vino vino. ¡El chico está loco, y ya está!
(Just call a spade a spade. The guy's crazy and that's that!)

P.S. 'call a spade a spade' is not a racist expression, it dates back to ancient Greek agricutlural times.

More wine proverbs in Spanish :

"Con pan y vino se anda el camino"
"A quien no fuma ni bebe vino, el diablo le lleva por otro camino"
"A cena de vino, desayuno de agua"

This is not a wine phrase, but something a friend of mine says a lot and I find funny : "No hay vinos malos y buenos, sino buenos y excelentes".

And this is my favourite wine-saying, not Spanish, but Latin : "In Vino Veritas" = In wine, the truth.

Are you forgetting English or an innocent typo? "pretensious"

"Como uses este vino para sangría te corto los guitos! ¿Tú sabes cuanto me ha costado?" jajaja

"No me lo dés con queso".

Este comentario era típico entre los granelistas de aquella manera. Tiene su origen en el intento de largar un vino que ya estaba picado. El cliente llegaba y al sentarse a catarlo se le sacaba un plato de queso curado. El vino mas lamentable del mundo parece bueno acompañado de un queso curado.

¡Los piratas siguen existiendo, pero lo del queso ya no cuela!
