Wasteland section removed

It's been a turbulent time in the forum recently, but hopefully everything is getting back to normal now. I've learned (I hope) a lot about forum management recently, and hope a lot of the confusion caused in recent weeks won't be repeated in the future.

For a while we had a section called the 'Wasteland' that I thought was a good solution to the problem of good threads getting spoiled by bad/rude/irrelevent posts, but in fact I think that:

a) In future it will be better to just deal directly with those that are causing threads to degenerate, rather than moving all their bad posts to a seperate 'shame' area like the now-removed wasteland section of the forum.

b) I don't think it does the forum much good to have an archive of loads of rude or trashed posts. For that reason I've removed the wasteland section. Any posts that might have ended up there in the future can better be deleted by mods, and anyone that continually produces posts would have been moved there is better off banned from the forum.

I hope this all makes sense and that the forum can get back to normal!

for many of our members this is the first/only forum they've joined so a reminder that if you display a post, under the user profile is a triangle icon. http://www.notesfromspain.com/forums...ons/report.gif

Click on this to report dubious posts and all moderators (gary, eldeano, greytop, Edith & ValenciaSon) and Ben will be notified.

Ben,

Good, let's get back to where we used to be. :thumbs-up: We have a good thing going here. Don't let a few spoil it. In my view posts should be Informative and entertaining with a modicum of humour. Never adverse to a good joke myself, but that's the thing - a good joke. There is nothing wrong with robust debate, or even a little mild leg-pulling, but insults and offense should never be allowed.

Una excusa perfecta para decirte Ben:

"Mas vale una vez rojo que 20 amarillo"
(Real Spanish Phrase Book - p.23) ;)

Muy bien Margot :)

Agree. A photographic forum I use, everyone seems to think they are a comedian, and it ends up with pages of rubbish. I wouldn't mind if they were funny, but they are anything but, and it gets very tedious.

Well done, and good riddance! :thumbs-up:

I really admired the way you challenged his "slings and arrows" on Sunday Edith. (I was too cowardly to confront him - but justified this by telling myself..."don't egg him on"). Good for you!

Pity about the sexist joke, though! >:D>:D>:D

Yes but in line with policy the moderators deleted it...:smug:

I know, I was that moderator...

I'd like to join in the congratulations for Ben and the moderators for the actions they've taken over the last few days - it's great to have the old forum back ;D. But perhaps it's tempting fate to continue discussing what happened. This thread started as a policy announcement by Ben which needs no further comment - how about closing it now so we can move on :)

I would expect nothing less;D

Its not a democracy its a limited company, and in any case even democracies have rules and those that enforce them;)

Reckon I agree with Rod - close the thread before we get full circle and start again.
