Ben, have you ever been over this bridge?
The major German news programme has an item on their website this evening about: The Swinford Toll Bridge

To those not in the know: this is a bridge across the River Thames in Oxfordshire that is allowed to collect tolls of 5p per crossing, the tolls being tax free for the bridge owner.

Amazing to think that the sale of the bridge made it onto the German news. Perhaps because they are obsessed with tax laws?

Did it make the news in Spain?

I have just checked the past three days of newsapers and can find no mention. Of course I heard of it through Radio 4 on line.
But here in Spain, with Sunday and Tuesday being holidays, we have a puente of another sort to occupy our minds.:D:D

I seem to remember a few years back there was a case of a toll bridge somewhere in the UK (maybe Scotland) where they found out that the license to collect tolls had expired some years previously, and they had accidentally continued to collect tolls illegally, without renewing the license. I'm not sure what they did in the end - I've tried googling the story but can't find it.

Keep a watch out for another Thames toll-bridge that is often alleged to be up for sale. I went over often, having to pay my toll each time!
