I agree about the drifting about bit...I love that way of travelling. You never know what you come across. So Ken go with the flow. But in order to fill you books up with places to head for then I will add this place too. It is near Opera it is called Taberna Real Plaza Isabel II. Website here.
We do not get much in the way of foreign food here in the sticks of Galicia so we also went to the Thai restaurant at Bangkok Thai Restaurant on the Calle del Arenal, 15. (No website). I found it through streetview.
I liked the Market at the Mercado de San Miguel, but we would never eat there. We, like a lot of other tourist had our DSLR out snapping away. So if you do not want your photo taken then stay away. Yes I sort of felt guilty afterwards. The Calle Cava de San Miguel and all the bars along it, are far more worth your while.
I was going to suggest another bar but I cannot find the details at present, hopefully I will find it later.
