Default What kind of ticket to buy for my train journey?

Hi all.

We will soon be traveling to Calafell, Tarragona, landing at Barcelona airport. From the Renfe Cercanias website and the plan there, it seems you need to:

Take the R2 Nord from the airport to El Prat (just one stop).
Take the R2 Sud toward Calafell, maybe or maybe not changing trains at Vilanova, depending.

From the zones plan (similar to London zones), the airport is in zone 4, El Prat in 1, and Calafell in 5. Because of changing trains in El Prat, do you buy a ticket for 4 zones (4 to 1), and then a ticket for 5 zones (1 to 5)? The prices as per the website are 3.00 eur and 3.60 eur for 4 and 5 zones.

Is that how it works? For example, if traveling only within the same zone you pay 1.40 for a ticket covering one zone only. Over two zones costs 1.60, etc.

Also, since the travel is from zone 4 to zone 5, but changing trains in zone 1, can you buy just a zone 4-5 ticket or is that breaking the law/rules?

If someone can clear this matter for us, thanks very much in advance.

Theres a kiosk at BCN airport in the railway station... ask there.
Theres also a machine with all the destinations on it which you may be able to use if you have no spanish.
Trains are every half hour out of the airport
