Default Is John McCain a racist and a bigot?

I just read this article and I wonder if it's really true what they say about John McCain. After all, Barack Obama has also become the victim of many rumors and possibly even some urban myths. So tell me what you think:

Personally I'm going to be extremely sceptical about any articles on McCain/Obama that appear on the web this year, especially ones based largely on rumour and which aren't backed up by concrete evidence. We're going to be bombarded by viral campaigns of lies, damned lies and statistics all the way up to the election itself.

Those jokes don't even come close to being funny... he's going to need a lot of help to "continue using humour in this race" as he was quoted recently.

All the worst and most offensive jokes in the world don't make someone a bad person, so I am going to assume he likes a "good" offensive joke but wouldn't try to re-enact slavery or herd all the gays into death camps.

True, but it still leaves me wondering why some people feel the need to make those jokes in the first place. Is there any psychologist on the forum?

I'm a firm believer that anything can be funny or made fun of... but there is a time, place and audience. As a politician McCain is cursed with having an audience of everyone all the time... should he be making such jokes when it is so easy to offend is another question.
Then there is the worry that he might actually believe in the contents of the jokes.

That's precisely what worries me.

Then there's the question of whether he would act on them (those beliefs).
A racist but competent CEO would not be stopped hiring a talented black person for and important role. He might then go and make racist jokes with his golf buddies. If this is the case, then there are probably better things for us to be complaining about - and if the jokes are funny the CEO could pay for second yacht with a writing deal in his retirement.

There will be plenty of mud slinging from both sides throughout this campaign. That being said, it doesn't surprise that the McCain racism account is close to the truth. There is no shortage of racists in the Republican party and Arizona does have that rep.

i didn't even have to read the article to know that stuff is true. he's a republican.

kidding. although i want all that to be true, it's probably more likely that a leftist wanted to create some slander. i can't imagine someone of decent or higher intelligence would say those things such that they could be overheard. the word's 'idiot' and 'republican' or only maybe sometimes synonymous ;-)

(sorry if the above sounds grammatically weird. i've spend the majority of my day not speaking english and my brain is confused).

Oh, but these things do happen. A couple of years ago, two local politicians from Amsterdam were overheard referring to Moroccans as 'kutmarokkanen'. 'Kut' is the Dutch word for 'c*nt' and it is also used as an adjective. The men were both Social Democrats, and it's all on video...

The article in capitol hill blue looks like it was posted just so it could air some offensive & racist jokes at the same time as have a dig at John McCain. After all, there was no need to actually repeat the jokes.

Although I'm sure that there are some racist's and bigot's in the Republican Party, I don't think McCain is one. In my opinion, he's one of the best canditates that they've had in recent time, admittedly the competition hasn't been that tough. Obama seems a good candidate too although personally I would have prefered Clinton.
