Why do people always have to fight turf wars over music? Live and let live. that's my motto.

Ok, let me put it this way: music is a matter of personal taste. It's not a religion or a crusade - there's nothing sacred at stake here. Whether someone likes Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Los Tigres del Norte, Phil Ochs, Beethoven, Michael Jackson or Manuel de Falla is not important. So let's stop fighting over it.

But music is like food! Which means you like it or you don't. Nobody is going to make me like eel or escargots, not even by pointing a gun at my head. It's the same with certain musical styles. Some kinds of music give me a headache, others make me happy. Así de simple.

Ah, OK. here is my list:

Salsa, merengue and cumbia: spicy Mexican food! (Celia Cruz would say: ¡Azúcarrrrr!)
Vivaldi: risotto with mushrooms
Spanish classical guitar: coq au vin, French fries and a good glass of wine
1950s rock and roll: pancakes with lots of syrup
(Irish) folk music: soft camembert
Los Lobos: pizza with pepperoni on top
Nuevo flamenco: gambas a la plancha
Heavy metal, Dutch pop: escargots

The original discussion wasn`t about who was the best, simply that world wide English speaking music is better known in countries who`s language isn`t English, Spanish music isn`t.

Whilst Eurovision is a song contest, its votes tend to come by a jury panel, the UK and some others use phone votes, but many Baltic countries don`t, the UK finances most of the competition and since the UK has supported the US since 9/11, the gulf etc we`ve become the black sheep and get no votes in a competiton full of tastless numpties.

But it could be worse, we could win, now that would ruin street creditability.

I think that Baltic countries are new in this kind of european events and they are excited and countries as uk, spain, italy, france, etc are just bored about it.

I don`t think its all against the UK, probably most of the Baltic region tastes are probably very similar, so its only natural they`d enjoy there neighbours music style.

Having said that, the biggest issue I had with Euro this year was the lack of use of each countries language, at least Spain sings in Spanish, i wish they`d implement the rule that each country sings in its own dialect.

Most non English speaking countries who write new songs in English seem to lack something, the lyrics are really really bad, maybe a translation problem, but it dosn`t work.

Eurovision should be more authentic and original, time to go backwards in order to progress.

my real opinion about eurovision is that they are a handful of bad singers with bad songs and bad lirics and in the future will be the same but more freaky, spain sould do as Italy, to get out and dont waste money in that.

I preffer a king crimson concert.

Maybe the merit Eurovision has is that it makes one truly appreciate professional artists.
